Kardiologie

In unserer immer älter werdenden Gesellschaft sind Herz-Kreislauf-Erkrankungen die Todesursache Nummer eins. Unsere Forschung fokussiert sich auf die grundlegenden Mechanismen der kardialen Alterung und der Herzinsuffizienz mit dem Ziel wirksame Interventionen gegen kardiovaskuläre Alterung, metabolisches Syndrom und Herzinsuffizienz mit erhaltener Ejektionsfraktion (sogenannte HFpEF) zu identifizieren und zu testen. Diese Volkskrankheiten werden mit komplementären Untersuchungen an verschiedenen klinisch-relevanten Kleintiermodellen und mit Hilfe von biologischen und molekularen Ansätzen bearbeitet und anschließend an humanen Herzbiopsien validiert.
